Quality Protection
How to Store Peptides
A practical framework for protecting lyophilized and reconstituted research materials from temperature excursions, light, moisture, contamination, and handling errors.
The three conditions to control
Lyophilized material
Keep unopened vials sealed, upright, and protected from light. Use the temperature range and expiry assigned to the specific lot. Avoid storing near heating or cooling vents, in direct sunlight, or where repeated door opening causes large temperature swings.
- Retain the original label and lot information.
- Use secondary containment to prevent breakage and mix-ups.
- Allow a cold, sealed vial to equilibrate as directed before opening to reduce condensation risk.
- Do not assume every lyophilized product can be frozen or kept at room temperature.
After reconstitution
Once liquid is introduced, stability and contamination risk change. Label the vial immediately with its concentration, diluent, preparation date and time, and protocol-defined discard time. Refrigerate or freeze only when the product-specific procedure directs you to do so.
There is no universal post-reconstitution window. The appropriate usable period depends on the material, diluent, sterility controls, container, and validated study protocol.
Receiving a shipment
Inspect the package
Check for crushing, moisture, broken seals, or damaged vials before putting material away.
Match the contents
Confirm product names, quantities, lot numbers, and labels against the shipment record.
Document concerns
Photograph the outer package, shipping label, packing materials, and affected vial before changing the condition of the shipment.
Move to specified storage
Place intact material into its documented storage environment promptly and record any known temperature excursion.
Good storage habits
- Use a monitored, stable storage location
- Keep an inventory and rotate by expiry
- Separate dry and reconstituted material
- Record excursions and corrective actions
Avoid
- Repeated freeze-thaw cycles
- Unlabelled or loosely capped vials
- Direct light and prolonged bench storage
- Using material with uncertain history
Questions about an arrival?
Keep the vial sealed, document the package condition, and contact Peptide Stacks with the order number and photos. We can help confirm the available lot and shipping information.
